I’ve had many. And I’m sure you have, too.
Yet there’s one that literally changed the course of my business this past year.
It was the moment I was sitting in a hospice bed cuddling with my former business partner and best friend a few weeks before she died.
If you knew Michele, then you know how amazing she was.
Insanely smart. Ridiculously funny.
And the Warrior Goddess you want by your side in a battle.
(Fortunately, I didn’t have to battle because Michele would take those on. Let’s just say you didn’t want to be a hotel manager who dropped the ball at one of our live events.)
Yet the one thing she wasn’t able to overcome was the cancer that ravaged her brain — and ultimately caused her to lose the mobility on her left side.
Now here she was, in a hospice bed in the living room of the same small townhome she left behind years before when she and her husband divorced.
And it struck me …
I can’t tell you how many times over the years Michele would laugh and say to me, “Dear God, don’t let my life lesson be acceptance.”
Now, with as much grace as she could muster, she was dying.
Right back where she started eons ago.
With nothing left but acceptance.
When that realization thundered into my awareness, I knew there was an important lesson there for me, too.
You see, I believe we all come here to fulfill a destiny we planned for ourselves — and to master some very specific lessons.
And in that moment I wondered, what life lessons was I avoiding that I needed to make peace with?
What was the one thing, at the end of my life, I want to be sure of?
Fortunately I had a way to find out.
Now I’m shifting things behind the scenes to make sure I overcome my lessons, fulfill my deepest calling, and leave this world with a light heart.
That was Michele’s final gift to me before she left this world.
And I will be grateful to her for all of eternity.
Now, what about you?
What is the 1 moment that changed everything?
